Year 3 Canoeing and Kayaking activity day June 2017 - dates to be confirmed

RBWM's Outdoor Education Project's base on Hurley Island houses all the necessary facilities to ensure a fun activity day on the river for our Year 3 pupils.

Canoeing in pairs or small groups develops communication and teamwork skills, trust and confidence.  The exercises take place in a very sheltered area of the river where the children learn how to steer a boat, and then paddle round the small nearby islands.  The group will also learn more about the river and its wildlife on their journey around the island.

After a picnic-style lunch, the children will take part in kayaking and develop their balance and coordination, perseverance, trust, teamwork and a range of other skills.

Details will be sent out as soon as dates are confirmed.

Year 4 Outward Bound trip July 2017 - dates to be confirmed

Our Year 4 pupils will enjoy a day out at the Berkshire College of Agriculture (BCA) in Burchett's Green.  They will start with a morning's adventure on the freestanding high ropes course.  Within the course are a number of elements including the Leap of Faith, Traverse, Jacob's Ladder and Crate Stack.  This is a great activity for young people to work towards overcoming fears, developing their perseverance, communication and trust.

After our picnic lunch we will change activity to woodland skills which will take place in the outdoor learning woodland area at BCA.  During the afternoon your child will have a go at shelter building, making some hot chocolate using Kelly kettles, and woodland art.  These activities focus on working together to develop the group's teamwork, leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

Details will be sent out as soon as dates are confirmed.
