PSMHE at St. Luke's
"The key to success is to keep growing in all areas of life - mental, emotional, spiritual, as well as physical." Julius Erving
At St. Luke’s, we follow the Statutory PSMHE (Personal, Social and Mental Health Education) Guidelines that were introduced September 2020. These include Health and Relationships Education in Primary schools and optional sex education in upper KS2; we cover these key areas using the Jigsaw PSHE Scheme of learning.
Each PSMHE theme is revisited annually to build on prior learning.
Alongside these 6 core days, we also allocate time weekly to develop class relationships and ongoing themes linked to our core School values. Children build on their skills and understanding using age appropriate topics and vocabulary.
Our School Council and Eco-Warrior roles give children opportunities to apply PSHME skills regularly and children are invited to produce learning examples (such as advice posters or to speak in assemblies for example.) Our older pupils take on roles of responsibility like House Captains, Sports Champions and Worship Monitors in Y5&6.
Our curriculum links to the National Curriculum and is further enhanced with materials from Jigsaw.
