Attendance and Punctuality
Our attendance policy is available at the following link: www.st-lukesprimary.com/policies/
Authorised absence from school
Under the Education Act (1996), parents and carers are required to ensure their child attends school regularly.
At St. Luke's, we highly value and celebrate good attendance and punctuality. We thank all parents and carers who make sure their children attend school every day and arrive on time.
Please be aware that holidays during term time will not be authorised.
If you need to request leave due to exceptional circumstances, please complete the form below and submit it to the school office.
All requests will be personally reviewed by the Head Teacher.
Unauthorised absences may be referred to the Educational Welfare Service, which could lead to prosecution or a Fixed Penalty Notice.
Illness related Absence
Parents and carers must inform the school of their child's absence each day of illness.
If your child is unwell, please notify the school by emailing attendance@st-lukesprimary.com or calling the school absence line at 01628 621600 by 9:30 am.
Failure to notify the school will result in the absence being marked as unauthorised.
Late Attendance
Children are expected to be in their classrooms by 8:45 am, ready to begin learning at 8:50 am. Any child arriving after the register is taken at 8:50 am will be marked as late, with the number of minutes late recorded. These minutes are monitored monthly.
If a child arrives after the register closes at 9:15 am, they will be marked as absent for the session.
Persistent lateness and late absences may result in a Fixed Penalty Notice.
Punctuality is essential, as it ensures children are present for the start of lessons. It also helps develop good habits for the future. Classrooms open at 8:40 am, providing plenty of time for children to settle in. The school day finishes at 3:20 pm.
All these measures are in place to ensure that our children at St. Luke's miss as little school as possible. Every child's education is important, and good attendance is crucial for their success, enabling them to reach their full potential and thrive.
