Geography
Geography explains the past, illuminates the present and prepares us for the future. What could be more important that that? - Michael Palin
It is our intent that the Geography curriculum at St. Luke’s School should inspire and enthuse our pupils by encouraging them to be curious and fascinated learners about the ever-changing world around them. They will learn how geography plays a big part in politics and the movement of people and goods and how this has shaped our society today. The Geography curriculum at St. Luke’s enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas and which can and are used to promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
As children explore the curriculum, they will learn and understand more about their local area, the UK, Europe and the World. We will develop children’s contextual understanding of the world through exploring different locations, environments, people and resources. Pupils will discover how landscapes have been formed and changed over time, exploring the relationship between natural/physical features. They will examine a range of geographical sources (including maps, photographs and digital information systems) and develop fieldwork skills (such as collecting, analysing and communicating data).
Our Geography curriculum aims to equip pupils with the knowledge that they need to learn about diverse places, people and environments for instance; so that this develops their own understanding about the responsibility of being an effective global citizen. Arming the children with a natural curiosity about the world will ensure a continued love of learning.
