Pupil Premium Information (updated July 2022)
Pupil Premium is additional money allocated to schools by the government to support pupils from low-income families. The aim is to narrow the disadvantaged gap by addressing inequalities and raising achievement of this particular cohort of pupils. The pupils who attract this funding are those who have free school meals and/or have done so in the last six years, are children of service families or are 'Looked After Children'.
At St. Luke's, Pupil Premium children are closely monitored and their needs met in a variety of ways. Successful and targeted interventions have included smaller class sizes, personalised learning in the form of precision teaching, reading interventions and learning mentors.
Our ongoing aim is to ensure that all of our pupils, including disadvantaged pupils are supported to achieve their potential in line with and/or above national expectations whilst they are at St. Luke’s. We encourage participation academically as well as pastorally and regularly plan enrichment activities and creative curriculum experiences to raise pupils’ aspirations and expectations of self.
We monitor the impact through our end of year results, pupil interviews, case studies, pupil dialogues, roles in school and moderation of provision against national outcomes. We review Pupil Premium achievement and progress regularly and feedback outcomes to our Academic Trust and Local Governing Body in July and September.
Over the last four years, all of our Pupil Premium children have reached national or made their expected progress. We are keen to maintain this post Covid. .
The main barriers to learning at St. Luke’s are very low starting points and limited communication, literacy and language skills including limited awareness of the richness of language and vocabulary choices available. In addition to this barriers can also be, limited reading experiences and/or lifetime experiences; like trips away, visits to the theatre, museums, sporting opportunities, reading opportunities and resources - as well as low expectations of self.
Many of our disadvantaged families also struggle emotionally and their welfare needs and involvement with other agencies can have a knock on effect on pupils’ experiences of school and wider school life. To support pupils we run Forest School experiences, catch up programmes and target children who are experiencing difficulty in their learning but also socially and emotionally. We offer pledges to all.
We also run free after school clubs, plan and run residential trips, theatre visits locally and in London, sports occasions; we also subsidise uniform and provide free winter uniform to children in need, to name but a few.
We also support Bed Poverty and have recently arranged for financial aid to help families to buy beds and bedding for children in our care.
We have received the following funding:
2021 - 2022: £77,320
2020 - 2021: £69,940
2019 - 2020: £71,200
We always spend in excess of our funding to ensure provision and enrichment are of a high standard. Please see our latest PP Strategy document to see how we support.
The Pupil Premium grant is used to outstanding effect. For example, highly knowledgeable Pupil Premium ‘Champions’ work closely with disadvantaged pupils to provide an individual programme of academic support and pastoral enrichment. Extra lessons, in a range of subjects from English and Mathematics, to Art and Music, ensure that disadvantaged pupils make rapid progress in all areas of their learning and emotional development. (Ofsted Oct 2017)
Disadvantaged pupils, and pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities, achieve particularly well because of the additional high-quality help they receive. Additional funding is used to great effect. (Ofsted Oct 2017)
KS2 SATS 2019 Results for Pupil Premium children were above National Expectations
